Awakened
Complex, Diverse, and Polished.
These are three words that describe the sound that is AWAKENED. Their strange hybrid of sound that's hard to classify under any one genre, can have its audience thrashing in a pit one minute, and swaying and singing along the next.
Awakened produces a very hard hitting, high energy sound, that will leave the listener craving more. A collection of musicians that all bring their own influences and opinions to every song is what makes them stand out from the various bands around the Des Moines Metro area. The guitar work is grinding, yet has a touch of harmony, utilizing complex arrangements. The drumming is intense and thunderous, yet methodical and precise. The booming bass playing is the low-end “glue”, which sticks it all together. (Rob is the originator of the 24/7 sustain.) The vocals are unique, with a tremendous aggressive/melodic style, that offer huge, catchy choruses and utilize two part harmonies.
Formed in 2006 by guitarists Marc Klocke and Rick Jarrett, they pieced together the original line-up. Following nearly a year of playing, they both felt that the line-up was badly motivated, and that things weren’t heading in the direction that was hoped for. With that in mind, the two decided to start from scratch and recruit new members to fill the positions of Vocals, Drums, and Bass in order to complete the very clear vision they had from the beginning.
Carl Burton, formerly of Pygwalk, assumed the role of vocals; along with former Archaic Drummer, Jake Kranovich, brought in to assume the drumming duties. Once former Defiance bassist Rob McGrath joined the fold, the line-up was finally complete. This new line-up found immediate compatibility, and found that all members had the same focus and determination.
The new project’s quick metamorphosis into something more refined and structured from the previous line-up caused a flood of ideas, putting Awakened into a position with all new material to record their first EP with Capp Audio Productions. The AD EP was released on January 24th, 2009, to a nearly sold out crowd at The House of Bricks in Des Moines, IA. Awakened has since went on to play numerous venues around the region, and are creating a major buzz on the Midwest music circuit.
Towards the beginning of 2010 the unforeseen parting with Jake Kranovich due to personal conflicts, left yet another void in the drumming department. As a band, Awakened decided to go out and search for nothing but the best representation of both their music and their character; without settling for just any drummer. They filled both with the acquisition of an amazing, hard-hitting drummer; Jason Stewart formerly of Des Moines local band Grinwire.
Awakened is in the process of writing material for its forthcoming album, tentatively scheduled for release before the spring of 2011.
