"Between Aura and Crush, that is always the debate. I don't think you can argue Crush is more of a dance club, and aura more of a place to hang and groove. Each is unique in its own way, but both are Des Moines Top clubs.. no question. The staff at aura is super cool. I can walk in and feel like it?s a small town bar even though it is so not. I just wish the constant bashing and backstabbing between the places would stop, that gets annoying. There is more than enough crowd to go around. Oh and the special parties.. crap, I spend cover x2 anytime the two bars have competing nights. Can't ever decide which is better. Peace all.. "

"I have been to aura a few times and was not overly impressed. I have heard a buzz around town that aura throws the hottest parties and has the best energy in town, however when i have been in there it was the exact opposite. The last time we were there, a few saturdays ago, the bar was half full and the music was a mellow trance with a mix or some current hip hop that really was laid back. It was almost as if everyone was sitting around waiting for something to happen. The actuall bar itself is newer and is very clean. The staff is friendly and on one occasion one staff member even appologized to us for it being so slow. The drinks were priced competitive and we did enjoy our short visit. Aura is definately a good starting point for a fun night out. But I wouldn't recomend this club for those looking for a whole night of fun."

"Love this place. Nate, Shawna, Brad, everyone is family. Is that bad?"

"I like Aura and applaud the Paganos for undertaking the project. I find the people there to be relatively friendly and not overly obsessed with the clique-ish status quo of some of its competitors. I find the layout of the bar pleasant and well put together. The bartenders are normally quite friendly and I usually have a good time when I go there. That is not to say, however, that all is perfect in Aura-land. While I appreciate the bar for what it's trying to do and the quality product it provides, I find a couple of things lacking. Namely, the location is awful. It's another West Des Moines bar in a strip mall. To make matters worse, it's next to the Foot Center. Here you have a bar that's trying to bill itself as an "ultra-lounge" and provide high-end entertainment to young adults, and they put it in a cheesy strip mall with no visibility from the street. Another thing that I wish Aura would do better is distinguish itself from its direct competitors. What makes Aura different from, and better than, the other bars in that part of town? Why should I chose to spend my money there and not other places? Maybe it's a question of marketing or event planning, but there's just nothing that makes me say, "I'm in the mood for X tonight, therefore, I should go to Aura." In my opinion, without a clear "niche" it's hard to separate Aura from its competitors. "
